My day in a Rainy Day

I could feel that it is raining outside. I am lazy enough to get up from my bed and see how the climate outside is. But the alarm in my mobile is reminding me for the 7th time and my wife standing next to me became an alarm and started reminding me that I have to go to office. I have snoozed it 6 times already (I am talking about my mobile alarm) for 10mins interval each and I had set the alarm at 6:00AM. So I had to get up from my bed to get ready for the office. (I know it’s going to be another _____ day (Yes you got it...)

With no interest to go to office I got up from my bed. And the next lazy thing to do in this rainy morning is to take a bath, that too with normal water. Anyway I had to do this for the benefit of others.

Now that I am done with my bath went to the dining hall. Mom and my wife had prepared hot idlis & vadai (made of banana flower) with coconut chutney. I should thank my mom for serving me that hot idli and should thank my wife for that tastier chutney. Of course I thank both of them for the vadai. (After marriage one has to praise both of them else another would be angry).

I could feel that hot idly running all the way through my food pipe and settling down in my tummy... Wow what a feel... Eating something hot during rainy morning feels yummy... Isn’t it???

Now I am ready to start to my office. Suddenly something sparked my mind and I remembered that my colleague who comes with me to office daily is on leave today. So I decided that I could give a try and go to office by MTC bus today. (Later I realized that this was a bad decision) And somehow I managed to swim from my home till main road and boarded a share auto.

Sitting in a share auto (especially during rainy season) is a talent you must have in Chennai city. You get a seat next to driver is comfortable but too risky. At the same time if you get a seat inside the auto then it’s less risky but you will be reminded of the position of a baby in the fetus. Only difference is that you will not be sucking your thumb.

After sitting in the above said position I somehow managed to get down (I was delivered) near the bus terminus. Now next activity is to catch a bus which is another talent you must have in Chennai city. Either you have to throw your kerchief from the window and catch a seat or struggle / fight / discuss / manage with the co-passengers and get in and catch your seat.

In the bus terminus there were two buses already of the same fleet number in which I am travelling. It means that the bus I am sitting will start late. All the windows of the bus were closed due to rain. And the bus in which I got a seat was horrible. The leg room was so less that even after folding my legs I couldn’t sit comfortably. Thought of getting down from the bus, but the bus was so crowded that I have to struggle to get down also. So I decided that I will remain seated and the bus started after 10mins.

I have never ever heard that the MTC buses had a water wash apart from the free service it gets from rain. Anyway the free service is only to clean the bus’s outer body. As I was very tired and sweating I leaned on the closed window with an idea of taking rest. The dust on the window was already mixed with rain water and now it created a design on my shirt. I realized this when I was half the way in my bus.

But the thing I really enjoyed is the sizzling climate, songs in my mobile (FM) & the view from the glass window of my bus. Almost after 30 mins of my travel I slept for 20 mins and suddenly woke up and saw that I am nearing my bus stop. I unfolded my leg, took my lunch bag and umbrella and somehow managed to get out of my seat.

Bus halted in my bus stop and the door opened. I felt like I am a Prince and I am entering the party hall where one of my soldier is opening the door and someone is showering the flowers from the top. But as soon as I stepped out of the bus I realized that I am an IT guy travelling in a local MTC bus.

It was raining heavily as Laila (name of the Cyclone) had courtesy to pass through Chennai during May to give a relief to us from this scorching summer. The speed of the wind was almost 80KMS per hour. I couldn’t hold my umbrella properly as the wind is trying to carry my umbrella with it. But the idli and vadai I had in the morning gave me enough strength to fight with the wind and hold it properly. Thanks to my Mom and Wife again. 

Now I boarded another share auto till office. Refer to paragraph 6.

I somehow managed to get down of the share auto that too on the opposite side of the road near my office. Now the activity of crossing the road is another talent you must have in Chennai city. The speed of the wind and rain is making me difficult to cross the road. Finally somehow I crossed the road and entered my office premises.

By the time I entered my office I realized that I am almost half wet due to Laila (please note that it’s the name of the cyclone). I rushed to the restroom, released the water, washed my hands, combed by hair and came to my seat.

With full A/C, rainy climate outside, no mood to work (with nice colleagues to give me company) I somehow managed to spend my half day with my colleagues in office, had my lunch and came back to my seat and started composing My day in a rainy day.
