Next day to a Rainy day
Laila has created a big difference in the life of Chennaities. She came yesterday and will cross the Andhra border today. In both the states she created a chaos and left her impression in heart of every chennaities. Yes I am talking about the cyclone Laila.
The next day to a rainy day always looks very bright & sunny. Isn’t it? I felt the same and started my day to office. I could feel the cool breeze as Laila was drizzling lightly. Sitting near the bus’ window and enjoying the cool breeze with drizzling rain is something everyone has enjoyed.
All the way to my office I was looking at Chennai after Laila’s attendance. It had inundated roads, uprooted trees, few huts and houses under water, footpath owners struggling for shelter, roofless shop owners struggling for shelter and so on.
I could see the kids playing in water by making paper boats. One kid has kept its cycle in the stagnant rain water and started pedaling the cycle very fast, so that the stagnant water moves away along with the back wheel’s rotation. Simple logic applied at right time.
I could see the chennaities assembled near hotels enjoying their breakfast with tea. Drinking tea in the local tea shops in the glass during rainy season... Hhhmmm it tastes yummy. And if the tea is accompanied with bajji or samosa (my colleague very well knows this feeling); then no words to express the feel.
When my bus entered a slum area I got a chance to see how the people there are affected. I could clearly see the after effects of Laila there. Few people there were repairing their huts while some were draining their huts. While some were enjoying the cool breeze some kids were playing like nothing has happened. While some were struggling to walk on the mud in the slum area some were making pots out of it. While some were cursing the Laila for destroying everything some were making proper use of it by washing clothes in rain water and even taking bath.
When the bus entered a posh area now I could see the Chennaities who reacted like nothing has happened the day before. They were busy with their usual work. Even I became one among them when the bus entered a posh area. The only thing that affected us was either low voltage or power cut at home because of Laila’s visit. Without any other reaction we curse the EB for the low voltage or power cut. But we never realized about the people out there who spend their life using a candle instead of tube light, either opened door or roofless hut instead of A/C.
When I was travelling in the bus I made up my mind that I will do something for this society. But as soon as I entered my office I forgot what I saw on my way and started concentrating in my work. But I don’t want this feel to go away. That’s why I have penned them here so that I am reminded about this every time I see it. Hope it creates at least a micro difference in your life too.
